When the Church Divides – And When It Can Unite

Why do church conflicts today extend far beyond the walls of churches? How do they affect trust between people, the unity of local communities, and the future of the country? And is it even possible to speak about the common good in a society that has become so deeply polarized?

These are the questions we will explore during the next webinar of the “Youth for the Future of Ukraine” project.

🎙 Guest speaker: Tetiana Derkach – religious journalist, researcher of contemporary church developments, and author of the book The Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine: The Anatomy of Betrayal.

This conversation, however, will not be about labels or about deciding “who is right.”

It will be about something else.

It will be about how, in a society where people have different experiences, different convictions, and different visions of the future, we can learn not only to argue, but also to listen to one another.

It will be about why respect for constitutional rights, a culture of dialogue, and responsibility for our own words have become just as important as political or religious positions themselves.

Church polarization is no longer merely a religious issue. It affects local communities, families, volunteer initiatives, universities, and the information space. And it is the younger generation that will have to find answers to one of the greatest challenges of the post-war period—not only rebuilding cities, but also restoring trust between people.

This conversation is open to everyone, regardless of whether you belong to a church or do not consider yourself religious at all.

Because the question is much broader:

How can we learn to live together when we are so different?
