Webinar “Psychological Trauma and Its Consequences for the Individual and Society”

Psychological trauma: what does it do to us – and how do we live with it afterward? Friends, we are continuing the webinar series of the “Youth for the Future of Ukraine” project.

We talk a great deal about the war – about its consequences for the country, communities, and families. But there is something that cannot be seen on maps or in photographs of destroyed buildings – what the war leaves inside a person.

Traumatic experiences can change the way we perceive ourselves, other people, and even the future. They affect relationships, the ability to trust, make decisions, work, and make plans. And when trauma is experienced not by one person but by thousands and millions, a different question arises: what happens to a society living under conditions of prolonged stress and collective trauma?

Can we “just get through” a traumatic experience? Why do some people find the strength to recover after difficult events, while others remain trapped by what they have experienced for years? How does trauma affect young people, relationships, trust, and the ability to envision the future? And most importantly – what can we do for ourselves and for one another?

🎙 Our guest is Yuliia Zaharnytska, a psychologist at the Mental Health Center of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA), a CETA counselor, trainer and supervisor of the CETA CPSS program, and a trainer in the “Suicide Prevention in Communities” program. Her professional work focuses on providing psychological support to people who have experienced crisis and traumatic situations.

💬 What will we discuss?

– What is psychological trauma, and how does it affect an individual?

– What consequences of traumatic experiences can emerge even years later?

– What happens when traumatic experiences become widespread and develop into collective trauma?

– How does war affect young people’s ability to build relationships and plan for the future?

– And what helps a person not only survive trauma, but also regain a sense of inner stability and the ability to move forward with life?

This will be one webinar in two parts – with an opportunity not only to listen, but also to ask questions and talk about what truly concerns us.
